Description

Delightful and lovable in his own way, Albert is reminiscent of the Martin Brothers Wally Birds (circa 1877-1923), who were instrumental in establishing studio and art pottery in England.  Hull is known for his modern-day take on the famous Martin Brothers ‘grotesque’ works, making high highly-collectible pieces a true investment in what are sure to become ‘antiques of tomorrow.’ Cobridge Stoneware impressed stamp on underside with artists initials and other marks.

About Andrew Hull: A freelance artist, designer, and sculptor, Andrew Hull attended Loughborough College of Art and Design.  During his second year, he did a project on ‘The Martin Brothers,’ who were ceramic artists at the Doulton Lambeth factories. During work on this project, Andrew developed skills in caricatured bird and animal sculptures, an art style and passion he continues today.

His first full-time job was with Holland Studio Craft in Stoke-on-Trent. Royal Doulton took over Holland Studio Craft. It was at that time that he moved to Cobridge Stoneware, a part of Moorcroft Pottery, where he went back to his college roots, developing a caricatured range of birds and animals in high-fired stoneware, all of which he gave their own stories. Unfortunately, Cobridge Stoneware ceased trading, and Andrew decided to continue as a freelance sculptor/designer.
