Description
Simply stunning. Magically adorned with dragonflies — a positive sign and reminder of our eternal transformation and spiritual growth — this Carltonware chimney vase was created in collaboration with Anita Harris Art Pottery. The vase and signature has been verified directly with the artist as one of only four made, yet it’s one of a kind as each is hand-painted. Featuring a lovely dragonfly and floral design against a red sunset background, it is hand-painted using reactive glazes, lusters, enamels, and tube-lining with gold. Signed in gold on the base by the artist, Anita Harris. This piece by this well-known studio pottery artist from Staffordshire, UK, is from her early career. Excellent condition overall with no damage, chips, or cracks; very very minor crazing in small spots inside the leaf design, nearly impossible to see. 9.055″ tall.
About Anita Harris. A world-renowned, award-winning artist, Anita Harris creates pieces that are vibrant, colorful, and described by experts as “antiques of the future.” As with this piece, she draws her inspiration from nature. Growing up in the countryside near the Jurassic Coast in England’s southwest county of Dorset, it is the flowers and the woodlands from her childhood that she often remembers and references. In particular, the love her mother had of Bluebells whose blue haze would bring her immense joy even when she started to lose her sight. It is with that love of colors and an understanding how they can lift our spirits that Anita creates works of art that continue to be best sellers decades later. They have been given the stamp of approval by respected dealers and even the prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Like nature, Anita’s designs are timeless and change with the seasons, bringing much-needed happiness every single day. She still makes pottery today, along with her son, under her own name in a small studio. Read more HERE.
About Carltonware. Established in 1890 by James Frederick Wiltshaw, William Herbert Robinson, and James Alcock Robinson trading under the name of Wiltshaw and Robinson, the Carlton Ware trademark was introduced in 1894, the factory then renamed Carlton Works. In 1911, the business partnership between Wiltshaw and the Robinsons was dissolved, and Wiltshaw formed a new limited company called Wiltshaw and Robinson Limited. Control of the company passed to Frederick Cuthbert Wiltshaw following the death of his father, James Wiltshaw, in 1918 in accident at Stoke-on-Trent railway. The company was renamed Carlton Ware Limited in 1958 and following the death of Frederick Cuthbert Wiltshaw in 1966, sold to Arthur Wood and Sons. The company developed serious financial difficulties in the late 1980s, which forced it into receivership in 1989. An unsuccessful attempt was made to rescue the company by Grosvenor Ceramic Hardware, with production finally ending in 1992. In 1997 the Carlton Ware brand was resurrected by Francis Joseph of the Carlton Ware Design Centre, Roslyn Works, Stoke-on-Trent. It continues to manufacture novelty items aimed at the collectors’ market.
