Description

Cobridge Stoneware Lascaux Vase, signed Rachel Bishop, height approximately 6-2/3″ by approximately 6″ at the widest part of the vase. While modern (circa 1998), it is crafted in the finest tradition of British art pottery.

About Cobridge. Cobridge Stoneware was a short-lived pottery company born out of the fascination for a process that died with the closely guarded secrets of William Howard Taylor, the man behind Ruskin Pottery.

Hugh Edwards, owner of Moorcroft, was keen to further develop the ideas of Taylor and, as such, formed a new company in September 1998 with a new name: Cobridge. It was always intended to be experimental, with one of its aims being to try to recreate the high-temperature fired ceramics of the Ruskin Pottery (1900-1935).

Cobridge was set up in a new building near the Moorcroft Pottery and Moorcroft’s top designers, including Rachel Bishop, were enlisted for the decorated stoneware which was received with much acclaim. While Cobridge closed in August 2005, Rachel continues as head designer for Moorcroft.
