Minton Secessionist Tubelined Vases, Circa 1900s

If we didn’t know its history, these pieces could have just as easily come from the pop-art era of the 1960s. But this exceptional pair of vases is from the early 1900s.  Rare English Minton Secessionist Tube Lined vases with distinctive bold and vibrant glazes and tube lining emphasizing their highly stylized and abstract floral motif.

In excellent condition with no indication of damage or repair, these gorgeous Minton Secessionist Tubelined vases are fully marked and made at Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire. Created by John W. Wadsworth under the art directorship of Léon Victor Solon from 1901 to 1916.

These art pottery vases are decorated with an attractive polychrome Majolica (lead) glaze in the Art Nouveau style in a rich red, accented with olive green and ivory and a golden yellow interior. The vases measure 9-1/2 inches in height by 5 inches in diameter. A beautiful addition to anyone’s collection.

About Minton Secessionist Ware. From about 1901 to 1916, Minton produced a range of pottery called Secessionist Ware, designed by John W. Wadsworth under the art directorship of Léon Victor Solon. The stylized floral and foliage designs constitute a significant British contribution to the international style of Art Nouveau. However, Solon and Wadsworth named the collection after the leading European Art Nouveau grouping of the time, the Vienna Secession, whose first international exhibition had been held in Vienna in 1898. Industrial manufacturing methods made the Secessionist range more accessible to the popular market than smaller studios or hand-made pottery.
