Description

Early Vienna Secessionist vase, Circa 1900s from the very start of the secessionist movement that took hold in Vienna, soon to be followed in England and elsewhere.

About the Vienna Secession. The Vienna Secession was an art movement formed in 1897 by a group of Austrian painters, graphic artists, sculptors, and architects who had resigned from the Association of Austrian Artists in protest against its support for traditional artistic styles. Their work – considered highly graphic and stylized – followed closely in the style of Art Nouveau. The Vienna Secession was a strong influence on other world-class producers of art and pottery, including the likes of Minton’s in England, whose tubelined work is still highly valued today.
