About the Artist. Alex Meilichson was born in Meridia, Venezuela. In his teens, he immigrated to Israel where he studied sociology at Tel Aviv University. Meilichson divides his time between Israel and New York, and travels a great deal each year to Norway, Paris, and Provence. His imagery is derived from a world of imaginary and playful characters, immersed in their own sense of wonderment and glee. He uses a blend of exotic and bold colors, and leans toward Fauvism, a style of painting and an art movement that emerged in France at the beginning of the 20th century, He is influenced by Matisse and Chagall. Meilichson has exhibited in Caracas, Venezuela, Moshe Monson Gallery in Jerusalem, and New York.
