About Moorcroft Pottery. One of the leading brands in England in the early 20th century, drawing on the organic splendor of art nouveau and creating vibrant, timeless pieces.
Founder William Moorcroft began his work as a pottery designer in the late 19th century as part of James McIntyre & Company. It was there that Moorcroft’s nature-inspired motifs took hold. He debuted one such line, the Florian pattern, at the 1904 Saint Louis World’s Fair. Following his success there, he separated from MacIntyre in 1912, forming W. Moorcroft Pottery which found huge success with collectors that included the British Royals. In fact, in 1928, Queen Mary awarded Moorcroft a royal warrant and soon after, Liberty, one of London’s leading department store, funded the development of specialty patterns. While Moorcroft continues today, it is the early 20th century patterns and pieces – like the tubelined pansy bowl offered here – that are most coveted by collectors today, with vintage and modern pieces sure to be antiques of tomorrow.
