Description

Simply stunning. Rare Charles Fourmaintraux double-handled vase, circa late 1800s. Most double-handled vases rarely survive without breaks or repairs. Bears the factory mark. Excellent condition. About the Maker. Charles-François Fourmaintraux-Courquin was the eldest of the Fourmaintraux-Hornoy family. A representative for his father, in 1863 he opened his own tile factory on rue de la Belle Croix. In 1872, under the influence of his wife, Célina Courquin, he turned to artistic earthenware and copied old models from the great historic centers of Rouen, Delft, Nevers, Moustiers. Production peaked between 1878 and 1886. The notoriety of his earthenware, which was regularly rewarded at commercial exhibitions, benefited all Desvrois factories.
